Veterans Day is around the corner. How will you thank you veteran?
November 11th is approaching soon, and this is a day we celebrate the sacrifices our veterans made during their time in the military. Time away from family, deployments, battles both internally and physically, fighting for our freedoms, relocations, and more. Military personnel go through a lot. And we should appreciate that.
Did you know that as of today, there are 19 million veterans living in our country. 19 million! That’s a lot of service. As a daughter/sister/niece/cousin/ex-spouse of members that currently serve and have previously served, I feel we should be proud and thankful for the men and women who took the vow to serve their country. If you’re not familiar, I wrote a children’s book about one important aspect of the military life…deployment. Specifically the military family’s experience with deployment. It can be rough. The anxiety of not knowing whether your soldier is safe, mixed in with the soldier wondering how everything is going at home and if their family is safe. One thing I think we can all agree on that melts our heart though is great military homecoming video. Those are the best!
I really wanted to highlight the subject of deployment homecomings, which is why I wrote Super Max’s Hero Surprise. Max is a military kid whose parent is deployed…or so she thought. One day during a school assembly, Max starts getting her “super Max” vibes. Max becomes concerned because everyone is now looking at her. Preparing for a possible villain that needs to be defeated, Max begins her preparation to become Super Max. But wait…a special visitor has arrived at school. Who is it? Written in rhyme, Super Max’s Hero Surprise will take readers on an emotional journey as it captures the strength of family ties, the emotions of living through deployment separation, and the joyous feeling of re-connection.
This book is an ode to military families everywhere for their sacrifice.
It’s available now in my shop, so consider honoring your veteran by getting them a copy today.
